How to Care for Hand-Knitted Baby Clothes

Hand-knitted baby clothes are made to be worn and loved — not just admired. With a little know-how, your Cosy Comfy Knits pieces will stay soft, shapely, and beautiful wash after wash. Here's everything you need to keep them looking their very best.

Washing

Our acrylic knitwear is designed for real family life, so you don't need to hand-wash every item. Follow these simple steps:

  • Machine wash on a gentle cycle — use cold or cool water and a mild detergent.
  • Place delicate items inside a mesh laundry bag for extra protection.
  • Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, or any harsh chemicals, as these can affect the yarn's softness and colour over time.
  • Keep the spin speed low to prevent stretching.

Drying

This is the most important step for keeping knits in perfect shape:

  • Lay flat to dry — never tumble dry or hang knitwear, as the weight of wet yarn can cause it to stretch out of shape.
  • Gently reshape the garment to its original dimensions while it's still damp.
  • Dry away from direct sunlight or radiators, which can cause fading and stiffness.

Keeping the Shape

A little care goes a long way when it comes to preserving that just-knitted look:

  • Fold knitwear rather than hanging it in storage — hanging can cause shoulders to drop over time.
  • If a cuff or hem loses its stretch, a gentle steam (held above the garment, not pressed onto it) can help revive the ribbing.
  • Store clean, dry garments in a breathable bag or drawer away from moisture.
